About NineteenS
NineteenS Are Back & That’s A Fact!
The “Original Nineteens” shoes were designed and sold by the I. Miller Shoe Company. The I. Miller shoe store, which was fondly called I. Miller’s, was located at 13th and F Streets, NW in Washington, DC. The Nineteens were at the height of popularity during the late 50’s and 60’s.The original shoes sold for $16 and as the popularity of the shoes increased, so did the price. At times, as a result of the changing price of the shoes, they were called 16’s, 19’s, 20’s, and 21’s, but 19’s seemed to be the name that stuck with the shoe. When I. Miller closed for business the cost of the shoes was $21.00.
The Nineteens were one of the most popular shoes worn by young African American females in the Washington Metropolitan area, Baltimore, and New Jersey. As we reflect on this shoe today, there are many stories to be told to a new generation of consumers about our beloved shoes.
As we attempt to recapture retro fashion trends, a pair of Nineteens must be at the top of your list!
